A recent survey commissioned by Daikin UK of 1,000 home-owners revealed that general consumer awareness of the renewables industry and the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) was reasonably high.
Most people said they were aware of heat pumps (53%), followed by solar thermal (42%), and solar PV (31%), but there was no mention of Biomass. The number of consumers with direct experience of the technologies was significantly lower than those who were aware of it. Only 17% of home-owners said that they had any interaction with renewable energy technologies with only 4% having one installed in their home.
Awareness of the Domestic RHI was rather low with only 35% of home-owners acknowledging any awareness of the scheme at all.
If the Renewable Heat Incentive is to work to it's full potential it is important that installers, like ourselves, work alongside the Department of Energy & Climate Change to increase awareness across the country.
The Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme may not be around for much longer and we are already seeing a steady decrease in tariff payments, especially for biomass installations, so it is important to get the information out to people to encourage take up of these technologies under a brilliant Government incentive which increases awareness of the renewables industry.
By the end of 2014 there had been over 20,000 installations accredited under the Domestic RHI scheme which launched in April, 5554 of these being biomass installations. We hope to see that number grow significantly over the course of 2015. For further information on the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive and the results so far please visit the Ofgem website.
